Another of the ongoing Mysteries over the Smee families concerns
the chaps known as Isaac Smee in Essex in the 18th Century.
My view of these chaps has modified since finding some new
(to me) documents in he Records Office in 2010
The table below shows events I have identified and indicates which entries I
have seen on Microfilm or original document.(not IGI entries)
If you can help with more information, please do let
me know Pete@smee.me.uk
Items shaded are where I have seen a document

Assumptions
Until the discovery of the Badger recognizance of 1765 I had
assumed Isaac Junior was the son of Sarah Pannell, however he had to
be at least 30 (and Married) to be a Badger so it would appear probable he
was the son of Hannah Miller
There is no indication in Isaac's 1770 Will that any of the
children are minors.
I have assumed the 4 children identified in the will were
the children of Sarah Pannell and that Isaac Junior had already been
provided for when his father remarried, however see comment below about
Timothy!
Later Isaacs
Isaac Smee, a child of Abraham Smee and Sally Smith, was
born and died in Chelmsford in 1850, he was a Great Grandson of Isaac Smee
Junior
Isaac Abraham Smee, a child of William Smee and Sarah Ann
Black, was born in Cambridge in 1870, he was a Great Great Grandson of Isaac
Smee Junior and emigrated to France
Isaac Smee, a child of George Smee and Elizabeth Ann Eliza
Mashwick Harvey was born in Ramsden Bellhouse in 1891, he served in the
Great War and died in 1922, no known connection to the other Isaacs
Outstanding questions
Was Isaac b1699 the brother of Jonathan Smee born Stambourne
c1702 and Ann c1709? This question has been hanging around for a long time,
but there is only highly circumstantial evidence.
Was Isaac Smee Junior the Romford Birth?
Was John Smee who married Elizabeth Betts related to Isaac
senior in some way?
Or was he a son of the Romford Isaac?
see my Mary Smee page - click here
Who were the parents of Isaac who emigrated and married
Rebecca Boatman?
Was Timothy Smee, beneficiary of Isaac's Will, the same
Timothy Smee who married Ann Miller in Castle Hedingham in 1750 if so he is thought to have been born
before 1732 which would make him
Hannah's son rather then Sarah's.
And Finally - a couple of Perplexions
-
According to the Mistley Parish Register an Isaac Smee was
the Father of Alice Rose Smee who was baptised in 1898.
Only known candidate would
be Isaac Abraham but the mother was shown as Anna
Maria Smee whereas Isaac Abraham was married to Lise Aimable Smee and they had
children in France in Oct 1897 and Jan 1899
I think the vicar had been at the communion wine and the
Father was Isaac Wyatt who married Anna Maria Smee in 1885
-
According to the Stambourne Parish Register a Jabes (Jabez?)
Smee was buried 19 Oct 1749 but it then says he was the son of Isaac and
Elizabeth Smee …….
this in comprehensible unless the father should have been Jonathan the
putative brother of Isaac(1). Jonathan was to bury 2 sons in the next 6
months)
