The Smee Emigration PatternsThis is only intended to be a sample of the known data December 2008 The greatest number of Smee Surnames identified outside of the United Kingdom is in the United States of America where 1,093 individuals have been identified, however the majority of those are descendants of Germanic or Austro-Hungarian Emigrees where the original Family name has been anglicised to Smee, A detailed analysis of these Emigrees is planned but is not yet available. The Smee individuals in the US who claim a British ancestry arrived via Canada, some arrived from Ireland during the "potato blight" years, but it is unclear how many were "native Irish" and how many were descendants of English Soldiers.
